THI Australia Announces $24,000 Grant To Elpida In Memory Of The Late Marianna V. Vardinoyannis

November 15, 2023

THI Australia announced today a grant of $24,000 in memory of the late Marianna V. Vardinoyannis to the Elpida Association of Friends of Children with Cancer (Elpida).

Elpida is an outstanding and highly-respected not-for-profit organisation in Greece. Founded in 1990 by a group of dynamic and dedicated women led by Mrs Vardinoyannis, Elpida has enabled all children to have to access to specialised treatment in oncology clinics at ‘Agia Sophia’ and ‘Aglaïa Kyriakou’ Children’s Hospitals, while Elpida Guest House provides patients and their families with cost-free support during treatment and recovery periods.

“We are delighted to be able to honour Marianna’s memory and her magnificent legacy by supporting Elpida’s young beneficiaries and their families with this grant,” said Nicholas G Pappas, THI Australia’s President. “Marianna’s legacy in Greece continues to be an inspiration to all in the philanthropic sector.”

The grant to Elpida was made possible by the generous donations received at THI Australia’s ‘Women In Philanthropia’ event held in Melbourne in May this year, the proceeds of which were matched by THI Australia.

Responding to the grant, Christianna V. Vardinoyannis, Elpida’s President, said, “Marianna always believed that the Greek people, united, can accomplish anything, and The Hellenic Initiative has been an important ally for the accomplishment of her noble vision for a better world for our children and country.”

THI Australia looks forward to its continued collaboration with Elpida as it continues to support young cancer patients and their families. If you wish to support the work of THI Australia, please consider making a tax-deductible online donation in Australia.
