Relief Programs

The Hellenic Initiative Australia has committed more than AU$2 million in grants, supporting dynamic Greek not-for-profit organisations whose far-reaching programs are helping people throughout Greece.

Through our partner charities, THI Australia has helped provide millions of meals and in-kind goods and services, supported the homeless, equipped regional hospitals to provide lifesaving care for children, funded preventive and specialist medical care for people living in remote islands and supported vulnerable communities across Greece.

In 2019, through the generosity of donors such as Con Berbatis, $500,000 was committed for public health initiatives in Greece over the next five years.

Axion Hellas provides much-needed specialist and preventive health care services to people living in isolated Greek island communities.

THI Australia has supported Axion Hellas volunteer medical missions to six remote Aegean islands.

THI Australia’s funding enables a person from a disadvantaged background to be employed for 12 months as a driver of one of the mobile laundry vans and to participate in a work reintegration program delivered by Ithaca.

Mazi Gia to Paidi is a non-profit association that supports more than 30,000 children annually, including those who face poverty, social exclusion, domestic violence, and chronic diseases.

THI Australia has funded a selected number of families with the provision of supermarket vouchers and access to counselling services.

Wise Greece is a social enterprise and non-profit organisation that supports one hundred small Greek producers promote their products in Greece and abroad. It also provides produce to local charities.

THI Australia has supported charities across Greece by donating Wise Greece Hope Boxes with food produce.
