Volunteering in Greece
Holiday with Purpose
Are you travelling to Greece and interested in helping people in need?
A number of THI Australia’s partner charities, including Boroume, Emfasis, Desmos, Doctors of the World Greece, and Ithaca Laundry, offer meaningful volunteering opportunities you may wish to explore. Even helping out with the smallest of tasks can help make a real difference to the lives of people and organisations in need.

Boroume at the Farmers Market
THI Australia’s support of the Farmers Market Program delivered by Boroume – Saving Food Saving Lives provides amazing volunteering opportunities. Volunteers of all ages can support Boroume to deliver its innovative food saving activities, which offer social, environmental and economic benefits.
From joining teams that collect unsold fruit and vegetables at vibrant farmers’ markets around Athens and Thessaloniki to harvesting donated crops, Boroume volunteers play a vital role in saving food for donation to local charities.
Volunteering offers a wonderful opportunity to support relief efforts, gain a unique insight into everyday Greek life, and connect with locals and fellow international volunteers.
The Program is implemented with the help of volunteers, including more than 175 Australians who have volunteered at farmers’ markets under THI Australia’s Volunteering Program launched in 2017.
The Farmers Market Program has saved 1,188,730 kilos of fresh produce from 43 local farmers markets in Athens and Thessaloniki and donated it to 91 charities.
Volunteers can join Boroume teams at the participating markets listed below. (Allow 2 hours, starting around 2.30pm)
